In order to engage students in all stages of community gardening, Grassroots Gardens has developed the Seedling Stewards Program.
Our educators first present a short lesson on the life cycle of a seed. Afterwards, youth will plant seeds with materials provided. Their job is to water and care for the seedlings until growing season (May or June). Once ready to be planted, the seedlings will be placed in school and community gardens across the city. If there is a garden close to the school, we can arrange a trip to plant them on site!
Contact us if your class or youth group would like to become Seedling Stewards.
During the spring of 2018, we planted over 600 seedlings with students in grades pre-k to 10th! For over half of the students, it was their first experience in planting a seed!
