JOIN GRASSROOTS GARDENS OF BUFFALO AT THIS YEAR’S HARVEST CELEBRATION!
The Karpeles Manuscript Library will host the second annual fundraiser to garner support for the community gardens!
ON OCTOBER 16th 2008, from 5:30 to 8:00 pm, Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo is holding its second annual fundraiser, The Harvest Celebration at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum at 453 PORTER AVENUE. Admission is just $25 for members and $30 for non-members, which includes unlimited food and beverages for the evening.
Come celebrate with us and get to know more about Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo, a non-profit organization devoted to the creation and support of community gardens throughout the city, where vacant property and blight have decimated many neighborhoods. These gardens bring people together and empower them and their neighborhoods to create places of beauty, hope, peace and productivity. What started in 1992 with a few gardens has now grown to include more than 35 gardens throughout Buffalo, particularly in the city’s east and west side neighborhoods.
Enjoy beer and wine donated by local businesses, as well as the delicious hors d’oeuvres donated by local restaurants and garden-fresh appetizers from our community gardeners. The celebration will include a raffle, a recipe give-away, and a slideshow of the community gardens. The Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum is the perfect atmosphere for socializing and enjoying a relaxing evening with friends. On display in the Museum will be the exhibit, “Great Nineteenth Century American Authors” of various original manuscript drafts, including one or more by Mark Twain, Emily Dickenson, Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Melville’s Moby Dick, and the only original page of Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Last year’s event was a complete success, and we are excited for this year’s celebration. Please join us for this wonderful event to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our community gardeners that are making Buffalo a better place!
